TTBR

Select the nature of income and relevant factual date. The tool will determine the Rule 115 specified date before finding the applicable SBI TT buying rate.

Why this rate matters

Rule 115 uses the SBI telegraphic transfer buying rate.

Rule 115 of the Income-tax Rules prescribes the telegraphic transfer buying rate on the relevant “specified date” for converting foreign-currency income into rupees. The specified date varies with the nature of income.

  • Salary, dividend and capital gains generally use the last day of the relevant preceding month.
  • House property, ordinary business income and residual other-source income generally use the previous-year end.
  • Interest on securities and non-resident shipping income have their own preceding-month tests.
  • Where the proviso applies, the date on which tax was required to be deducted replaces the ordinary specified date.

Sources & limitations

A useful archive, with transparent attribution.

The original rates are published in SBI's daily Forex Card Rate PDFs. SBI presently exposes the current rate card but does not provide a complete, convenient historical search facility.

Historical records used by this tool are retrieved from the independently maintained, MIT-licensed SBI FX RateKeeper archive, which compiles daily SBI publications and links to the saved source PDF. Data should be checked against the linked PDF before being relied upon in a return, opinion or proceeding.

Professional-use notice

This tool applies the selected Rule 115 income classification to the dates entered and is a professional convenience aid—not a determination of the head of income, TDS obligation or tax treatment. Verify the facts, applicable provision, currency quotation unit and linked source document before use.
